CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday issued notices to the Union Aviation Ministry and Union Home Ministry on a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking directions to grant free air travel facility to the freedom fighters and their spouses.

A lawyer, H C Arora, has moved the PIL seeking quashing of an order dated July 27, 2011 issued by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) declining free air travel, or with 75 per cent concession to freedom fighters.

Cop, ex-cop held with Rs 10-cr heroin

JALANDHAR: Two policemen, a serving PAP head constable and a dismissed IRB constable, were arrested by the Jalandhar Police allegedly with two kg heroin worth Rs 10 crore in the international market. CIA Staff incharge Inderjit Singh said the accused, Inderjit Singh of Gharinda village near Amritsar was a head constable in the 9th Battalion of PAP while Resham Singh of Cheecha village in Amritsar, had been dismissed from the IRB after remaining absent for a long time.

RDX, arms recovered from two KZF men

NAWANSHAHR: Following the arrest of two people, allegedly part of the Ranjeet Singh Neeta-led Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), the Nawanshahr police on Monday claimed to have recovered 2.7 kg of RDX along three detonators, two timers, three bombs, two China made pistols and 11 cartridges from the duo. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that about 2,000 workers at Delta Air Lines are taking early retirement offers, allowing the company to reduce its staff. The airline also announced more flight cuts.

The move was part of Delta’s efforts to fold in employees from Northwest Airlines into its own work force. Delta acquired Northwest in 2008, but after extended challenges in labor representation elections, it is finally completing the combination of work forces this year.

The airline will also cut back international flights, just after opening the Atlanta airport’s new international terminal with additional gates.

The paper reports that Delta will cut another 5 percent of trans-Atlantic flight capacity due to the weakened euro and the risk of fuel price spikes, according to Bastian. The airline will also cut another 1 to 2 percent of flight capacity in the Pacific region, he said.
